A man named Mr. Smith delivers a woman's baby during a shootout, and is then called upon to protect the newborn from the army of gunmen.
In the middle of the night, while waiting for a bus in a bus station, a lonely stranger called Mr. Smith sees a pregnant woman being chased by a man with a gun. He follows the couple, kills the man and helps the delivery of the baby in the middle of a shootout while a gang of hit-man tries to shoot them up. The woman is killed but Smith saves the baby, escaping from Hertz, the leader of the killers. Then he meets the prostitute Donna Quintano, who has just lost her baby, and asks her to breastfeed the newborn. They are chased by Hertz and Smith discovers the reason why the bad guy wants to kill the baby.
So I saw the preview of Shoot Em Up on TV and thought it looked pretty bad. The title basically says it all, its none stop shooting and not much acting. I do happen to love Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti though so I went to IMDb to check out the ratings. I have spent a lot of time on IMDb over the years checking ratings and basing my movie choices on its usually reliable scores. So after seeing the 7.0 rating I thought I could have been wrong with my initial opinion and decided to rent it from blockbuster. I have never been more Disappointed with a movie and if it weren't for the one time viewing the movie sweet justice, it would have been the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. I was so let down by IMDb that for the first time in the years of searching movies and actors I had to sign up for account and become a regular voter to fix travesties like this. I ended up giving this movie 3 stars because after you get over the fact that it is such a bad movie you can sort of laugh at how bad it is. These pity laughs are the only reason I can think of for the original 7.0 rating. If you like ridiculous action that makes no sense at all, even more ridiculous one liners, and the occasional boob slip then by all means this could be the movie for you. But in my opinion a movie like this belongs in the early nineties or at least in the 2 dollar bin at wal-mart.
The movie is indeed a &quot;pure&quot; action movie. The problem is that everything else seems to be missing. There a very simplified story and that&#39;s about it.<br/><br/>The rest: loots of shooting, some original sex scene with shootings and some more shooting in case you missed it.<br/><br/>My assumption is that the movie is good for either tired people as they need to see something while cooking or without actually thinking of a plot (kinda have to also ignore the bad acting). But it will be a killer in the 10-12 year old boys &quot;market&quot; as it has all the action you would need.<br/><br/>Oh well, I guess it beats watching something on the TV, but just barely.<br/><br/>This is a movie I would buy if it were in the bargain bin as a DVD or get for free as a TV release, nothing more.
Its pulpy violent excess will tip over…into slightly more excessive excess. That's its silly, scuzzball joy.
